Oyo Kidnappings Linked to Dislodged JAS Terrorists

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) confirmed that the recent kidnapping incidents in Oyo State were carried out by dislodged terrorists from the Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati Wal-Jihad (JAS) group. This statement, issued on Thursday, was signed by Maj Gen Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations.

The DHQ described the reports surrounding the kidnappings as misleading and clarified that these acts were not the work of ordinary criminals but rather violent terrorist elements. The military high command noted that the kidnappings were a direct result of intensified military operations against the JAS group, which has been displaced due to ongoing military offensives across the country.

The statement also reassured the public that the armed forces are committed to supporting the constitutional government and protecting democratic institutions while actively collaborating with local security agencies to dismantle terrorist networks threatening national peace and stability.
