Oyo State Launches Women Economic Empowerment Policy

The Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, led by Commissioner Mrs. Joke Saani, is partnering with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) to implement a Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy aimed at increasing women's participation in key economic sectors. This initiative seeks to ensure that government interventions are responsive to women's needs, particularly in agriculture, education, employment, and solid minerals.

Saani stated that the policy would mainstream women's interests into government planning and budgeting, moving beyond traditional roles. The initiative aims to include women, especially those with disabilities, in agricultural programs and provide them with greater access to capital and resources.

Olabisi Aina, leading the NGF delegation, emphasized that the policy is designed to integrate women's economic empowerment into all government operations, making it a collective responsibility of all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The initiative will culminate in a stakeholders’ workshop to validate findings before finalizing the policy in Oyo State.
