Oyo Pensioners Accuse LAUTECH, Emmanuel Alayande Varsity

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Oyo State Council, accused the managements of the Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH) and the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education of defying Governor Seyi Makinde’s directive regarding pension increases for retirees. Comrade (Dr) Olusegun Abatan, NUP Secretary, stated that Governor Makinde had ordered an increase in the minimum monthly pension to N25,000 in January 2025, along with several outstanding pension adjustments.

While many pension-paying agencies complied with the directive, LAUTECH and Emmanuel Alayande University have not, despite the union's efforts to resolve the issue through letters and meetings. Abatan criticized the Chief Medical Director of LAUTECH for delaying engagement with the union and noted that the Vice-Chancellor of Emmanuel Alayande University had not fulfilled previous assurances.

He confirmed that Michael Adeniyi Koleoso Polytechnic had begun implementing pension increases from July 2026, which the union welcomed. Pensioners from the affected institutions are entitled to the N25,000 minimum pension and all outstanding adjustments dating back to January 2025.
