Oyo Assembly Supports International Probe on Abductions

The Oyo State House of Assembly, led by Rt. Hon.

Adebo Ogundoyin, issued a statement on Tuesday expressing congratulations to the people of Oyo State for the successful rescue of pupils and a teacher abducted by terrorists in Oriire Local Government Area. The Assembly reaffirmed its support for Governor Makinde's call for an independent international investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

The Assembly emphasized the necessity of such an investigation to establish the facts of the mass abduction and to strengthen Nigeria's security architecture to prevent similar attacks on schools. They noted that mass abductions of schoolchildren have become a disturbing pattern in Nigeria, and collective efforts have not been sufficient to end this menace.

The Assembly commended the efforts of security agencies and called for a transparent review of the incident, stating that the governor's proposal should not be misinterpreted but seen as a patriotic appeal for greater transparency and accountability in addressing the growing threat of terrorism and mass school abductions.
