Oyo State Achieves Top Rankings in Democracy and Liveability

Oyo State has been recognized as the top state in Nigeria for both liveability and democracy, according to the 2025 Democracy Performance Index report by Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) and the 2025 Liveability Index by Phillips Consulting. Prince Dotun Oyelade, Oyo State Commissioner for Information, announced that Oyo scored 70 percent in the democracy index and was named the most liveable state.
The assessments evaluated various factors, including democratic participation, institutional effectiveness, civil liberties, infrastructure, security, healthcare, education, and economic opportunities. Oyelade attributed Oyo's success in the democracy index to high electoral participation, effective institutions, and the protection of civil liberties.
He acknowledged ongoing challenges in political inclusion, particularly regarding the representation of women, young people, and persons with disabilities. Governor Seyi Makinde emphasized that his administration focuses on placing citizens at the center of policy decisions, promoting transparency and human development.
The findings contribute to ongoing discussions about accountability and public service delivery in Nigeria.
