Oyo State Plans 300MW Electricity Generation by 2027

The Oyo State government, represented by Commissioner Dahud Shangodoyin, has announced a strategic roadmap to generate 300 megawatts (MW) of electricity by 2027. This initiative is part of a commitment to build a sustainable energy future that aims to alleviate poverty and enhance economic prosperity through reliable power infrastructure.

Currently, Oyo State receives only 182 MW from the national grid, significantly below the required 520 MW for economic growth. The government has begun a 12 MW independent power project in Ibadan and plans to add an additional 120 MW by the second quarter of 2027.

This project is expected to support industrial growth, attract investors, and create job opportunities. The Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (OYSEDC) is tasked with regulating the electricity industry and addressing consumer complaints.

The government has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Shell for gas distribution to support power generation.
