Oyo State Invests in Sustainable Energy for Economic Growth

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, on Thursday, reiterated the state's commitment to building a sustainable energy future aimed at transforming poverty into prosperity through reliable power infrastructure. The state has commissioned a 12 megawatt independent power gas project in Ibadan, which will serve not only the government secretariat but also strategic public institutions.

Dahud Shangodoyin, Chairman of the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission, noted that the state currently receives 183 megawatts from the national grid, significantly below the minimum requirement of 520 megawatts for economic growth. The project is expected to reduce operational costs and expand the state's economy.

The administration plans to add 120 megawatts by 2027, aiming for a total of 300 megawatts to meet at least 60% of the state's electricity needs. Additionally, the state has signed a memorandum of understanding with Shell for gas distribution to support power generation.
