NSCDC Confirms Officer's Death During Training Exercise

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) confirmed the death of Officer Victoria Ogbodo, who sustained critical injuries during a tactical training exercise in Abuja. The drill, part of preparations for the 2026 World Civil Defence Day, involved simulated rescue operations related to kidnapping scenarios.

Despite immediate medical attention at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in Gwagwalada, she was pronounced dead. NSCDC Commandant General Ahm Audi described the incident as "painful" and "shocking," extending condolences to Ogbodo's family and colleagues.

He directed a high-level delegation to visit the bereaved family and assured them of support and benefits. Audi acknowledged the inherent risks in emergency response operations and emphasized the need for improved safety protocols during such exercises.

An internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident has been initiated to prevent future occurrences, reaffirming the NSCDC's commitment to workplace safety.
