Palestinian FA Pushes for FIFA Ban on Israeli Football

The Palestinian Football Association (PFA) has intensified its efforts to have the Israeli Football Association (IFA) banned by FIFA, citing multiple violations of anti-discrimination obligations. Jibril Rajoub, the head of the PFA and the Palestinian Olympic Committee, made this announcement during a press conference in Al Bireh, located in the occupied West Bank.

He referenced a recent FIFA fine of 150,000 Swiss Francs (approximately 190,700 USD) imposed on the IFA for failing to address racist behavior, particularly concerning the club Beitar Jerusalem. Rajoub condemned the IFA's actions, labeling them as indicative of a "racist nature" and highlighted the ongoing violence against Palestinian athletes, noting that 1,007 athletes and coaches have been killed in Gaza since the onset of conflict in October 2023.

He also pointed out the destruction of sports facilities and the lack of accountability for Israeli clubs participating in leagues based in occupied territories. The PFA's push is part of a broader condemnation of Israeli settlements deemed illegal under international law.
