Palestinian FA Demands FIFA Action Against Israel

On March 24, 2023, Jibril Rajoub, the President of the Palestinian Football Association (PFA), urged FIFA to impose a ban on Israel after a report revealed multiple breaches of anti-discrimination rules by the Israeli Football Association (IFA). FIFA's disciplinary committee had previously fined the IFA 150,000 Swiss francs for these violations.

Rajoub emphasized the need for tougher action against Israeli sports officials, particularly regarding clubs based in West Bank settlements, which are considered illegal under international law. He cited the impact of the ongoing conflict, noting that 1,007 athletes and coaches have been killed, and 265 sports facilities have been damaged since October 2023.

The PFA's call for sanctions comes amid ongoing disputes over the legitimacy of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which the United Nations has repeatedly condemned.
