PANDEF Protests South-South Exclusion from N3.9trn Projects

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) expressed strong discontent regarding the exclusion of the South-South geopolitical zone from the Nigerian government's recently approved N3.9 trillion road infrastructure projects. During a press conference in Abuja, PANDEF's national chairman, Ambassador Godknows Igali, noted that out of 26 projects approved by the Federal Executive Council on June 29, only one road, the Benu-Cross River border road, is near the South-South region.

Igali criticized the allocation of N86 billion to the South-South, stating that it grossly shortchanges the region, which is vital to the nation's economy. He emphasized the need for a fair distribution of projects to foster a sense of belonging among citizens.

Igali also referenced the East-West road as a failed project and lamented the neglect of major ports in the region. PANDEF called on President Bola Tinubu to announce new road projects and address the exclusion of the South-South in infrastructure development.
