Ijesaland Committee Promotes Dispute Resolution for Land Issues

The reconstituted Committee on Land Matters and Chieftaincy Affairs, established by the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adesuyi Hastrup, has called for the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution among residents of the six local government areas in Ijesaland to address land ownership and chieftaincy disputes. Prof. Kolawole Kazeem, the committee's secretary, made this announcement during the panel's first sitting in Ilesa, Osun State.
The committee, led by Pa Ebenezer Adefalu, includes members such as Oba Peter Adebamigbe and Rev. Abiodun Osungbohun. Kazeem emphasized the importance of amicable resolutions to reduce the high number of chieftaincy disputes originating from Ijesaland.
The committee also plans to collaborate with the Osun State Boundary Commission to address complaints from communities along state boundaries. Kazeem stated that the committee would handle unlawful activities related to land grabbing and trespass, ensuring that petitions from affected towns are presented to the Boundary Commission for resolution.
