Lorry Crashes into Anambra Church, Sparks Fire

On Wednesday, a lorry crashed into the premises of St. Matthias Catholic Church located in Agulu, Anambra State, causing a significant fire.

The incident occurred late in the evening along the road leading to Agulu Lake and the Golden Tulip Hotel. Eyewitness Simpli Uzor reported that the lorry was traveling at high speed when it lost control, veered off the road, and crashed into the church's fence, triggering the fire.

Fortunately, there were no casualties as no one was present in the area at the time of the incident. The driver of the truck reportedly fled the scene immediately after the crash.

Chukwudi Chiketa, the head of the Anambra State Fire Service, confirmed the accident was due to speed and loss of control. Firefighters responded promptly to the distress call and successfully contained the fire, preventing further damage.

The operation concluded without any additional incidents.
