Dickson Urges Parties to Mobilize for 2027 Elections

On Wednesday, former Bayelsa Governor Seriak Dickson addressed the Nigerian Democratic Congress during its maiden national executive committee meeting in Abuja, highlighting the pressure on political parties regarding the adjustment of the electoral timetable ahead of the 2027 general elections. Dickson emphasized the need for parties to intensify voter registration efforts, noting that the timeline for the elections is limited due to changes in the electoral act.

He warned that parties cannot afford to be complacent and must actively engage grassroots support rather than relying solely on financial strength. Dickson also pointed out that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had approved a revised schedule for the elections, with presidential and national assembly polls set for March 6, 2027, and governorship and state assembly elections scheduled for February.

He called for immediate action to ensure voter registration continues effectively, urging party members to prioritize building a credible support base.
