Passengers Stranded as Airlines Suspend Flights Amid Strike

On Tuesday afternoon, passengers were stranded at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja as aviation unions continued their industrial action, which disrupted flight operations. The strike also affected the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, where union members barricaded access to departure terminals.

Airlines such as Air Peace, Enugu Air, and United Nigeria Airlines announced disruptions, suspending or rescheduling flights due to restricted access to airport terminals. Air Peace reported that the entrances to its departure terminals at both the Murtala Muhammed Airport and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport had been blocked, preventing scheduled flights from departing.

The industrial action stems from grievances over workers' rights to unionize and the alleged non-remittance of the five percent Ticket Sales Charge (TSC) collected from passengers. Air Peace issued an apology to affected passengers and stated that they were contacting those scheduled to travel later in the day with updates as the situation evolved.
