PDP blasts Canadian court over ‘terrorist’ label on Nigerian political parties

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized a Canadian court for labeling Nigerian political parties as "terrorist" without evidence, bias, or proper information. The Federal Court of Canada recently upheld a ruling that classified the PDP as a terrorist group, leading to the denial of asylum to Douglas Egharevba, a former member of the party.

The court's decision, delivered on June 17, 2025, was dismissed by the PDP as misinformed and lacking substance. The party's Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, emphasized that the PDP stands for democracy and does not support violence or terrorism.

He urged Canadian authorities to focus on specific allegations against individuals rather than making sweeping accusations against entire political parties. Osadolor highlighted the importance of freedom of speech and cautioned against unfounded statements that could harm Nigeria-Canada relations.
