PDP Elects New Leaders in Bayelsa, Targets 2027 Elections

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) held a congress over the weekend to elect new leaders across its eight local government areas in Bayelsa State. The congress was reported to be peaceful and conducted through a consensus arrangement.

Georg Turnah was elected as the caretaker chairman of the PDP in Bayelsa State, representing Ogbia Local Government Area. He emphasized the party's commitment to reclaiming its mandate in the upcoming 2027 general elections and the 2028 off-cycle governorship elections.

Turnah highlighted the PDP's historical achievements in the state, noting that it has produced leaders including deputy governors and acting presidents. He commended the leadership of Nyesom Wike and Governor Douy Diri for maintaining a safe political environment.

The congress saw participation from 105 ward delegates, showcasing active citizen involvement in the democratic process. Newly elected Ogbia LGA PDP chairman Ofoni Morgan reaffirmed loyalty to the PDP and pledged to ensure the party retrieves its mandate in 2027.
