PDP Faction Submits Jonathan as Presidential Candidate

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Turaki, SAN, has submitted former President Goodluck Jonathan's name as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This submission was made manually due to the faction's claim of being denied electronic submission codes by INEC.

The National Publicity Secretary of the faction, Ini Ememobong, stated that INEC acknowledged receipt of the submission. The faction asserts it is the authentic leadership of the PDP based on a Supreme Court judgement that left the party without a legally recognized national leadership.

They have approached the Federal High Court in Abuja after INEC allegedly refused to recognize their interim leadership. Ememobong criticized a recent judgement by Justice Salim Oluwasupo Ibrahim, claiming it contradicted previous Supreme Court and Court of Appeal decisions.

The faction accused INEC of bias and warned that any publication of different names would raise concerns about the commission's impartiality.
