Turaki Denies PDP Congress Reports, Focuses on Reforms

Kabiru Turaki, the factional leader of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Oyo State governor, has publicly denied reports suggesting that the party is conducting congresses across the country. He described these claims as false information intended to destabilize the opposition party and undermine Nigeria's democracy.

Turaki stated that the PDP is not holding congresses and accused those promoting such reports of prioritizing personal interests over the party's survival. He emphasized the party's current focus on strengthening its internal structure and ensuring that leadership continues to provide updates on political events.

This clarification comes amid deepening divisions within the PDP, with rival factions asserting that the party's leadership is planning a national convention on March 29-30, despite ongoing litigation. The PDP's national caretaker committee, led by acting national chairman Moham Abdulrahman, has been notified of the proposed convention, while Turaki's faction strongly opposes the legitimacy of the FCT minister's bloc to conduct congresses on behalf of the party.
