Gbenga Hashim Resigns from PDP Amid Internal Divisions

Gbenga Hashim, a presidential aspirant, announced his resignation from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in a letter dated April 4, 2026, addressed to the PDP chairman of Usuma Ward in Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory. Hashim's decision to resign is effective immediately and comes amid ongoing internal crises within the PDP, which have led to the emergence of rival factions and a significant setback for the party's unity.

Despite several attempts to reconcile aggrieved factions and restore unity, Hashim lamented that these efforts have failed, resulting in a weakened party structure and diminished credibility as it approaches the 2027 general elections. He expressed concern over Nigeria's socio-economic situation, including insecurity and economic hardship, and criticized the PDP for its internal divisions, which he believes are driven by personal interests.

Hashim called for a formidable political party to work for the benefit of Nigerians and to help build a new political order focused on security, justice, and economic prosperity.
