Fintiri Leads Mass Defection from PDP to APC in Adamawa

On a significant political shift, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State announced his defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on a statewide broadcast from Yola. This move, made within 48 hours of the announcement, included 39 officials and 14 local government area officials, with Bathiya Weslei, the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, also resigning from the PDP.

Fintiri stated that the decision was driven by the need to fast-track development and act in the best interest of Adamawa residents. The defectors pledged loyalty to Fintiri and expressed commitment to collaborate with the APC.

However, Umar Ardo criticized the defections as opportunistic and devoid of ideological conviction, undermining democratic principles. Fintiri's administration has faced scrutiny over alleged financial misappropriations, with five corruption charges pending against him in a federal high court.

The PDP bid farewell to Fintiri, acknowledging the long-speculated move.
