Erondu Jr. Defects to APC, Reducing PDP to Two in Abia

Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jr., a lawmaker representing Obingwa West Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, has officially defected from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This move, announced on Tuesday, reduces the PDP's representation in the Abia Assembly to just two lawmakers.

Chris Akoma, a former deputy governor of Abia State and APC leader, explained that Erondu Jr.'s decision was influenced by the need for bold reforms in Nigeria's long-term growth, pledging to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election campaign in 2027. Erondu Jr. emphasized the importance of sustaining support for the APC and noted that he brings with him a backing of 5,000 supporters from his constituency.

His defection follows sustained overtures from APC figures, including Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, who remarked on Erondu Jr.'s value as a political asset for the APC in Abia State.
