PenCom Allocates ₦241 Billion for Infrastructure Projects

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has announced a commitment of ₦241 billion from the pension industry to mobilize long-term capital for infrastructure development, with expectations to increase this amount to nearly ₦300 billion as further commitments are secured. Director-General Omolola Oloworaran disclosed this information during a press briefing following a commission meeting.
The initiative is being implemented through the Pension Industry Infrastructure Consortium, in partnership with FSD Africa, with the first tranche of funds anticipated to be deployed by the second quarter of 2027. Oloworaran clarified that the ₦241 billion is a commitment rather than an investment, as discussions are ongoing with other development partners to potentially match this amount.
Specific infrastructure projects for funding have not yet been determined, as the process is still in the mobilization and structuring phase. Oloworaran emphasized that investment decisions will remain at the discretion of Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) based on the interests of pension contributors.
