PenCom Alerts Nigerians on Rising Job Recruitment Scams

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has issued a fresh alert regarding a rise in job recruitment fraud targeting Nigerian job seekers. The warning, communicated via its official Twitter handle on Tuesday, outlines various tactics employed by fraudsters to deceive the public.

These scammers utilize multiple communication channels, including WhatsApp, email, and personal phone calls, to lure victims with fake job offers. PenCom noted that these fraudsters often create a false sense of urgency, pressuring individuals to submit personal details quickly to facilitate employment opportunities.

The commission specifically highlighted the common strategy of requesting confidential documents to be sent to a so-called secretariat via WhatsApp, which is a major red flag indicating fraudulent activity. Furthermore, PenCom has reported instances of scammers impersonating directors within the commission to appear credible.

The commission emphasized the importance of verifying job-related communications through official channels and assured that it is closely monitoring the situation to protect Nigeria's pension system and maintain public trust.
