Retired Police Officers Protest Pension Scheme at Villa

On Monday, retired police officers blocked the gate of the Presidential Villa in Abuja to protest against the contributory pension scheme, which they labeled as fraudulent, inhumane, and obnoxious. The protest was organized by the Nigeria Police Retired Officers Forum, with retired Assistant Superintendent of Police Nurudeen Dahiru stating that they were not begging but demanding their rights after serving the country for 35 years.

The officers carried placards calling for the end of the scheme and urged President Bola Tinubu to sign the police exit bill that was passed by the National Assembly on December 4, 2025, and transmitted to the President on March 16, 2026. The bill aims to exempt police personnel from the contributory pension scheme.

The protest follows a series of demonstrations by retired police officers, including a notable protest last year, and highlights ongoing concerns regarding their welfare and the implementation of the pension scheme.
