Ayo Salami Questions Eligibility of Obi and Yusuf for 2023

Ayo Salami, the former President of the Court of Appeal, raised concerns about the qualifications of Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, and Abba Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, to participate in the 2023 presidential election. Salami attributed his doubts to issues of judicial incompetence, stating that Obi should not have been allowed to contest as the Labour Party had already submitted its candidate list to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which does not recognize independent candidacies.

He also noted that Abba Yusuf's candidacy was questionable as the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) had not registered him or issued membership cards. Salami criticized the judicial appointment process, suggesting that many judges ascend to higher courts not solely based on merit but also due to regional considerations.

He expressed concern over the lack of requisite experience among judges, which he believes affects their ability to deliver sound judgments.
