Peter Obi Blames Politicians for Nigeria's Woes, Urges Prayers

During a Sunday worship gathering at Koinonia Global, Peter Obi—the 2027 National Democratic Congress presidential candidate—delivered remarks before congregants. The service was conducted under the direction of Apostle Joshua Selman.

Obi's central argument focused on governance and fiscal management: he asserted that inadequate national resources are not Nigeria's fundamental constraint. Rather, he traced the nation's difficulties to shortcomings in how current officeholders exercise stewardship over state finances and wield their authority.

Leadership failures, Obi maintained, represent the actual impediment to progress, not a shortage of wealth. The ex-Anambra governor called upon those gathered to offer intercession on behalf of elected officials, requesting divine intervention to guide them toward deploying public funds for citizen welfare and elevating the standard of governance overall.

Obi stressed that Nigeria possesses adequate riches to achieve widespread flourishing, yet lacks the requisite quality of leadership needed to deploy such abundance prudently. He further noted the indispensable contribution made by ordinary citizens—particularly those engaged in faith communities—toward preserving national cohesion amid current turbulence.

Apostle Selman extended an unexpected invitation for Obi to address the assembled worshippers. Though Obi initially expressed hesitation and uncertainty about his message, he ultimately accepted the opportunity to appeal for interceding prayers benefiting those occupying elected positions.

The administration of President Tinubu responded critically to Obi's church engagement. Daniel Bwala, serving as the President's Special Adviser on Policy Communication, characterized Obi's church visit as a maneuver aimed at forging fresh political partnerships following the loss of earlier backing.
