APC's Basiru Dismisses Obi and Kwankwaso's Claims

Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), responded to statements made by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and his running mate Rabiu Kwankwaso, who suggested that President Bola Tinubu could be defeated in the 2027 general elections. During a town hall meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Peter Obi expressed confidence that voters would protect their votes, while Kwankwaso referenced the 2015 defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan as a precedent for the APC's potential loss.

Basiru, in an interview with Punch, characterized their comments as "cheap talk" and "wishful thinking," asserting that both Obi and Kwankwaso are "poor students of history" and may be suffering from "partial amnesia." He reminded them that former President Muhammadu Buhari won re-election while the APC maintained control in many states, emphasizing that the presidential election is not determined by rhetoric alone. Basiru expressed confidence that Nigerians would re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
