Dangote Refinery Petrol Supply Drops, Price Increases

In July 2026, Dangote Petroleum Refinery supplied 25.8 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) per day to the Nigerian domestic market, marking a 21% decline from the 32.5 million litres per day recorded in June. This figure represents the lowest monthly domestic supply for the refinery in 2026, as reported by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

During the same period, the refinery produced 25.9 million litres per day and exported 3.4 million litres per day, indicating that nearly all output was directed to the local market. The increase in petrol imports by 9% to 19.7 million litres per day in July did not offset the overall petrol supply, which fell to 45.5 million litres per day from 50.6 million litres in June.

Domestic consumption also decreased to 35.7 million litres per day from 47.4 million litres. Additionally, all three refineries owned by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited were shut throughout July.

Effective August 21, 2026, Dangote raised its petrol price by N20 per litre to N1,185, remaining lower than depot market prices.
