Gbajabiamila Threatens N10bn Suit Over Defamation Claims

On Tuesday, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, announced plans to file a N10 billion defamation lawsuit against Princ Adeniyi, the Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). This legal action follows allegations made by Adeniyi, which Gbajabiamila claims are damaging and defamatory, particularly concerning a 48% grant allocation and the receipt of N400 million.

Gbajabiamila's legal representatives, Pinheiro LP, issued a cease and desist letter demanding a retraction and apology within 72 hours. The letter, dated July 6, 2026, emphasizes that the allegations are false and damaging to Gbajabiamila's reputation.

Concurrently, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to conduct a thorough investigation into the PFIPC's activities, particularly regarding the legitimacy of appointments and the use of fraudulent documents. The ICPC is expected to submit a comprehensive report within 30 days.
