AGF Contradicts Claims on PFIPC CBN Account Existence

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) has contradicted claims made by Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-acclaimed Director General of the Presidential Fiscal Intervention and Promotion Council (PFIPC), regarding the existence of a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) account. The AGF stated that the PFIPC does not have a CBN account and that no government funds have been allocated or disbursed.

The police found that Adeyemi used fake documents to attempt to open a CBN account, which misled officials. The AGF clarified that the process to operate a CBN account was stalled due to the absence of authorized signatories.

Furthermore, the AGF dismissed claims that salaries were paid to PFIPC staff, emphasizing that federal agencies cannot recruit personnel or process salary payments without approval from relevant authorities. The controversy surrounding the PFIPC has drawn public attention, especially after President Bola Tinubu's administration disowned the body, asserting it does not exist.

The matter has escalated with allegations of forgery and impersonation against Adeyemi, who is set to stand trial.
