NSITF to Enhance Worker Protections at NBA Conference

The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) will play a central role at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference scheduled from August 21 to 28, 2026, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The session, led by NSITF Managing Director/Chief Executive Mr Oluwaseun Faleye, aims to expand legal protections for workers and enhance social security in Nigeria.

Building on last year's focus on the Employees’ Compensation Act (ECA) 2010, this year's theme emphasizes moving from awareness to actionable strategies for implementation and compliance. The session will address judicial perspectives on compliance, particularly concerning payroll under-declaration, and discuss how the legal community can facilitate better access to compensation benefits for workers.

The ECA 2010, administered by NSITF, provides essential support for workers facing workplace injuries, occupational diseases, or death. Despite its provisions, gaps in awareness and enforcement persist, with under-declaration of employees on payrolls identified as a significant barrier to accessing benefits.
