Photo Of Boko Haram Founder’s Son Arrested In Chad Emerges

The son of the founder of Boko Haram has been arrested in Chad, along with five other suspected jihadists, in a security operation by Chadian forces. Photos shared on social media show a young man in a blue tracksuit, bearing a resemblance to the late Boko Haram leader.

The son is believed to be leading a cell linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a splinter faction of Boko Haram. The Chadian authorities have confirmed the arrest but have not provided details about the suspect's identity.

Mohammed Yusuf, the founder of Boko Haram, was captured by the Nigerian military in 2009 and later executed. The younger Yusuf is believed to have been born in Nigeria and has recently emerged as a field commander within ISWAP's Lake Chad network.

The arrest is seen as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing regional efforts to dismantle jihadist networks operating in the Lake Chad Basin.
