Photobook On FCT Natives Launched In Abuja

In Abuja, senior director of the United States National Geographic Society, Paul Nwulu, recently launched a photobook titled "Edges of the City." The book serves as a visual chronicle of the aboriginal community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The public presentation in Abuja showcased colorful pictorial documentation of the FCT indigenous community's life, culture, and struggles, many of whom were displaced following a 1970s decree by State Murtala Mohammed.

Nwulu, also the Executive Director of Tricom Productions, expressed that the work was inspired by a desire to tell the often overlooked narrative of the indigenous community amidst Abuja's growth into a megacity. The photobook, supported by the MacArthur Foundation, highlights the challenges faced by FCT aborigines, including forced displacement, demolitions, and lack of access to safe water.
