Nigerian Army Recovers Remains of Slain Soldier, Fiancée

The Nigerian Army has recovered the remains of Master Warrant Officer (retd) Linu Musa Audu and his fiancée, Corporal Gloria Mathew, who were abducted and killed in April 2022. The recovery occurred during a targeted search operation launched on April 24, 2026, following fresh intelligence.

The operation, conducted by troops from the 82 Division in collaboration with security agencies, led to the discovery of a shallow grave believed to contain the remains of the slain personnel. Forensic examinations, including DNA tests, were performed to confirm their identities.

The Nigerian Army has pledged to facilitate proper identification and provide the fallen personnel with a burial befitting military honors, recognizing their service and sacrifice amid ongoing insecurity in the southeastern region of Nigeria, where attacks by armed groups have affected both civilians and security personnel.
