Andrea Pirlo Set to Become Italy's Next Head Coach

Andrea Pirlo is on the verge of being appointed as the new head coach of the Italian national football team, succeeding Gennaro Gattuso. The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has intensified its efforts to finalize this appointment, with Pirlo emerging as the leading candidate.

According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the FIGC approached Pirlo on a Friday with an offer for a four-year contract, and discussions have progressed positively. Although no official announcement has been made, Pirlo is seen as the preferred choice after the federation's search for a new manager.

The coaching position became vacant following Gattuso's departure in April after Italy's failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Prior to selecting Pirlo, the FIGC had approached Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti, both of whom declined the position.

If appointed, Pirlo will aim to rebuild the national team after its recent struggles, despite winning the UEFA European Championship in 2021.
