Italy Considers Pep Guardiola for National Team Coach

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has confirmed that Pep Guardiola, the former Manchester City manager, is a leading candidate to become the next head coach of the Italian national team. This consideration follows Gennaro Gattuso's resignation in April after Italy's failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the third consecutive time.

FIGC President Giovanni Malagò disclosed that discussions with Guardiola have already taken place, and the federation is willing to make financial exceptions to secure his services. Malagò acknowledged that while Guardiola is a serious contender, he is not the only option, as former Italy manager Roberto Mancini and current Dubai United coach Andrea Pirlo are also under consideration.

The federation seeks a coach with a proven track record at the highest level. Guardiola recently concluded a successful 10-year tenure at Manchester City, where he won multiple titles, including six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.

Although he has never coached in Italy, he played in Serie A from 2001 to 2003.
