Tensions Rise in Southern Borno Over Senate Seat Race

In Southern Borno, political dynamics are shifting as a faction led by Comrad Ibrahim Ezekiel Mamza aims to replace incumbent Senator Ali Ndume in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Tensions escalated on Wednesday following reports of a successful opposition plan within the district.

The Savannah Community Association, under Mamza's leadership, criticized stakeholders within the Progress Congress for endorsing Abdullahi Askira, the Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly. The group warned individuals, including Sule Gambo and Dr.

Hauwa Mai Musa, against supporting Askira's candidacy, alleging that he is linked to efforts to create a separate Savannah State. Mamza urged Askira to publicly apologize for his stance on the matter, despite opposition from other groups encouraging Askira to challenge Ndume.

Concerns were raised regarding Askira's record in office, with claims of no visible projects during his tenure, and the ongoing insecurity in the area attributed to inadequate legislative efforts. The group reaffirmed its support for Ndume, citing his commitment to representing Southern Borno's interests.
