Plateau Assembly Passes Bill for Ex-Lawmakers' Pensions

The Plateau State House of Assembly has passed a bill during a Thursday plenary session that seeks to provide pensions for former speakers, deputy speakers, and principal officers of the assembly. The bill, sponsored by Mr.

Eli Ankala of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Rukuba/Irigwe, successfully scaled its second reading under the leadership of Speaker Mr. Daniel Nanlong.

The proposed legislation aims to establish the Plateau State House of Assembly Pension Board, which will oversee pension administration, maintain pension records, and eliminate ghost pensions. The bill is designed to strengthen the management of pension matters, ensure proper documentation of beneficiaries, and facilitate regular verification to prevent irregularities.

It seeks to create a sustainable pension system for former legislators who have served the state, promoting efficient and transparent management of public resources.
