Plateau Assembly Former Speaker Peter Azi Passes Away

Peter Azi, the former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, died on August 13, 2026. His death was confirmed by a family member, John Azi, in a press statement released on Friday, although the cause of death was not disclosed.

The Azi Ajang family expressed their submission to the will of God in their announcement of his passing. Peter Azi represented the Jos North-West Constituency and was elected as the Speaker of the Eighth Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in June 2015.

He served in this capacity until July 2018 when he was removed from office through an impeachment process. His death has elicited condolences from political associates, constituents, and various stakeholders within Plateau State.
