Death Toll Rises to 27 in Plateau State Attack

In Plateau State, Nigeria, the death toll from a recent attack has risen to 27, with 14 individuals confirmed dead at the scene and 13 others succumbing to injuries in hospitals. The attack occurred around 7:30 PM when armed assailants, reportedly wearing military camouflage, stormed the community and began shooting indiscriminately, causing panic among residents.

Community leader Samson Chiroma expressed devastation over the brutal attack, emphasizing the loss of life, including that of a pregnant woman. Following the incident, angry youths blocked roads in protest, demanding urgent government action to address the violence.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang visited the affected community, condemning the attack as barbaric and unprovoked, and assured residents that security agencies would work to apprehend the perpetrators. The Commissioner of Police, Bassei Ewah, confirmed the casualties and injuries, while the governor announced a 48-hour curfew in response to the unrest.

The community is calling for compensation for the victims' families, highlighting the need for improved security measures.
