UNIJOS Evacuates Students Amid Rising Tensions in Jos

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has issued an order for the evacuation of students from its hostels amid escalating tensions and violence in Jos. This decision follows a deadly attack in the Anguwan Rukuba community, which resulted in several fatalities.

The evacuation is set to occur in two phases, as detailed in a circular signed by Deputy Registrar Emmanuel Madugu on behalf of the registrar. The first phase will evacuate students whose parents or guardians reside within Jos and its environs on Wednesday at 3:00 PM, while those whose guardians live outside the area will be evacuated on Thursday.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has authorized transportation to facilitate the evacuation, which will operate beyond curfew hours. The university management has assured the student body and the wider community that adequate security measures are being implemented to safeguard hostel and campus facilities, with ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of the institution following the recent violent incidents.
