Plateau State Eases Jos North Curfew Amid Security Gains

The Plateau State government has announced a relaxation of the curfew in Jos North Local Government Area, reducing the restricted hours from 7 PM to 5 AM. This decision, communicated by Commissioner Joyc Ramnap, follows reports of an improved security situation.

The curfew was initially imposed on March 29 after an attack in Angwan Rukuba by gunmen, which resulted in the deaths of 20 residents. The attack caused panic, leading to a 48-hour curfew that was later extended due to ongoing tensions and fears of reprisals.

Protests by women and youth demanding the release of three arrested community members disrupted daily activities during the mass burial of the victims. President Bola Tinubu visited the state following the attacks, promising justice and enhanced security.

Despite the government's efforts, sporadic attacks continue in Plateau State, prompting authorities to maintain strict observance of the curfew and encourage residents to cooperate with security agencies.
