Plateau State Eases Jos North Curfew After Violence

The Plateau State Government announced a relaxation of the curfew in Jos North Local Government Area, reducing the restricted hours from 7 PM to 5 AM. This decision, made on a Wednesday, follows a reported improvement in the security situation after weeks of violence, including a deadly attack on March 29 that left 20 residents dead in Angwan Rukuba.

The announcement was made by Commissioner for Information, Joyc Ramnap, after consultations with security agencies, which deemed the situation satisfactory for the adjustment. The initial curfew was imposed to control unrest and was later extended due to ongoing tensions and fears of reprisals.

President Bola Tinubu visited Plateau State amid the crisis, promising justice for the victims and plans to enhance security measures. Despite the relaxation, authorities warn that restrictions remain in place, urging residents to observe the new curfew hours and remain vigilant as sporadic attacks continue in the region.
