Plateau State Declares War on Terrorism Amid Rising Attacks

The Plateau State Government, led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, has declared a state of war against terrorists, responding to a surge in coordinated attacks across the state over the past four months. This declaration was made during an emergency meeting of the Plateau State Security Council held on Tuesday at the Rayfield Government House.

The meeting, which included the Secretary to the State Government, Samuel Jatau, reviewed the deteriorating security situation and resulted in the adoption of fresh measures to enhance the protection of lives and properties. The council identified the recent attacks as evidence of coordinated assaults and agreed on the need for intensified enforcement of a ban on motorcycles at night and illegal mining activities, which have been described as factors fueling insecurity.

The government has directed security agencies to reclaim ungoverned areas and public spaces, while also boosting logistical support for security operations. Additionally, the council emphasized the importance of collaboration with local government security structures and pledged to ensure the safety of farmers ahead of the farming season.
