Plateau PDP Candidate Advocates N500m for Local Security

Chief Kefiano Kefas Ropshik, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Plateau State, has called for the state government to allocate N500 million monthly to enhance the state's internal security rather than contribute to the proposed Northern Nigeria Security Trust Fund. Ropshik argues that direct investments in local security would yield better results in protecting lives and property than a regional initiative over which Plateau has limited control.

He supports the Middle Belt Forum's stance on the security fund, emphasizing the urgent need to address ongoing attacks and displacement in Plateau communities. Ropshik asserts that the government's primary responsibility is to safeguard its citizens and that available resources should prioritize local security.

He proposes that the monthly funding could improve surveillance, intelligence gathering, and community-based security structures, as well as aid in rehabilitating violence-affected communities. While he acknowledges the importance of regional collaboration, he insists it should complement state obligations to protect citizens.
