Plateau State Reports 441 Cholera Cases, 14 Deaths

The Plateau State Government confirmed 441 suspected cholera cases and 14 deaths across four Local Government Areas (LGAs) since the outbreak began in June 2026. Dr.

Nicholas Ba’amlong, the Commissioner for Health, reported that the affected LGAs include Mangu, Jos North, Jos South, and Barkin Ladi. The outbreak initially detected in Mangu has seen 20 Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) reactive cases and six laboratory-confirmed cases.

Jos North is the most affected with 277 suspected cases, four deaths, and three patients currently receiving treatment. The government, in collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), WHO, and UNICEF, is implementing enhanced surveillance, free treatment, and public awareness campaigns.

Ba’amlong urged residents to seek immediate medical care for symptoms and maintain hygiene practices. He confirmed that transmission in Mangu has been interrupted, with no active cases reported since July 22.
