Plateau Women Form Vigilante Group to Combat Crime

In Plateau State, Nigeria, a group of young women has established a vigilante outfit to combat increasing crime rates, including violence, theft, and drug-related offenses. The initiative, led by Bless Ngozi Emmanuel, aims to address the community's safety concerns following repeated failures of government security promises.

The group consists of 20 women from both Christian and Muslim backgrounds, showcasing unity across religious lines in a region often marked by tension. They conduct nightly patrols from 9 PM to 1 AM in areas deemed vulnerable to crime.

Despite the risks, including reported injuries and threats to members, the women emphasize that their mission is to support community security rather than replace formal law enforcement. Emmanuel expressed frustration over the lack of official recognition and support, noting that local government officials visited only a week prior despite the group's ongoing activities for months.
