Plateau Youths Demand State Police Amid Rising Insecurity

On Wednesday, Plateau State youths protested at the government house, demanding action against persistent attacks and insecurity in the region. This protest was triggered by a recent incident on Tuesday night in which gunmen attacked Rim village in the Riyom Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to two others.

Eyewitness John Sati reported that the attack occurred around 10:30 PM, with gunmen firing indiscriminately before fleeing into the surrounding bush. Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson for the Berom Youth Movement, confirmed the attack and expressed concern over the escalating violence in the area.

The protestors called for intensified security patrols and justice for the victims. Ezekiel Peter Bini, president of the Plateau Youth Coalition, lamented the killings of security personnel in the region.

The protest coincided with the launch of a peace roadmap by Governor Caleb Mutfwang aimed at resolving conflicts between farmers and herders in Plateau State, which has seen nearly 12,000 deaths and 420 community attacks over the past two decades.
