Women Form Vigilante Group to Combat Insecurity in Plateau

In response to escalating insecurity in Plateau, a group of young women has formed an all-female vigilante outfit to combat violence, theft, and drug-related crimes. Led by Bless Ngozi Emmanuel, the group consists of approximately 20 women from both Christian and Muslim backgrounds, highlighting a rare instance of religious unity in a region often marked by tension.

The initiative was prompted by the growing impact of crime on communities, which were once considered among the safest in the country. The women conduct nightly patrols from 9 PM to 1 AM in areas deemed vulnerable to crime.

Emmanuel acknowledged the risks involved, noting that some members have faced threats and injuries. Despite the dangers, the group emphasizes its mission to support community security rather than replace formal law enforcement.

Emmanuel expressed frustration over the lack of official recognition, mentioning that local government officials visited the team only recently, despite their months of active operation.
